Abstract:

This paper presents supervisory control concepts, elements of a typical system, testing activities, project management, and the procurement process. Modes of control systems are discussed with examples given for supervisory manual, supervisory automatic, computer-directed, and optimization. Performance requirements cover system response, availability, reliability and maintainability while detail design specifications are covered in hardware and software discussions. Communications systems considerations that tie the supervisory system together are discussed. The project management aspects of a supervisory control system project which cover the approval data process, design coordination conferences, project scheduling and system testing are presented. Finally, procurement issues are discussed centered around the types of procurement utilized.
