Abstract:

Procedures and techniques that have been used successfully in Charleston, S. C. for planning management of disposal areas are outlined and explained. The following are some of the issues addressed: the goals of a disposal area management program, crust management; preparation of a disposal area prior to disposal operation through spillways, perimeter ditches, berm raising, subdivision of areas, etc; the importance of proper dike construction; appropriate action after dredging is complete.
