Solving Channel Maintenance Problems at Reads Landing, MN

by Daniel J. Krumholz, US Army Corps of Engineers, St., Louis, MO, USA,

Document Type: Proceeding Paper

Part of: Dredging and Dredged Material Disposal

Abstract:

Dredging a sediment trap at the delta of the Chippewa River is being tested as a channel maintenance technique. It's designed to improve the Corps of Engineers predictive capability, provide more flexibility for scheduling dredging and ensure a safer navigation channel. The historic disposal site is being excavated for future use as a temporary holding site. An abandoned gravel pit is being used for the first time and will be the future permanent placement site for this dredging location.
