Part of: Dredging and Dredged Material Disposal

Abstract:

Disposal of dredged material in the thalweg or deepest portion of the Upper Mississippi River is one of several disposal alternatives that can be utilized. Aside from the mechanical/cost problems associated with thalweg disposal, there are unanswered questions concerning its environmental acceptability. Phase I studies are attempting to determine the potential impacts of thalweg disposal on the fish species of the Upper Mississippi River.
