Part of: Analysis and Design of Pile Foundations

Abstract:

Modeling of pile foundations in a centrifuge, where the self weight induced stresses in the soil are simulated by elevated gravity loading, is described. Hollow pipe piles in a stiff clay were tested in simulation at the University of Houston site. Tapered timber piles in sand were tested in simulation at the Locks and Dam No. 26 site. Effects of inflight installation, soil properties and soil saturation were studied.
