Document Type: Proceeding Paper

Part of: Management Planning for Survival and Growth

Abstract:

A discussion is given on the approach of Camp Dresser & McKee Inc. to the question of specialization versus diversification in a consulting engineering firm. It was easy to opt for specialization in times of double digit growth; however, the company remains committed to specialization in environmental markets, and a clear statement of the organizational mission has provided an overall direction for the future. The firm looks for many diverse market segments where its specialized capabilities provide a competitive advantage over less focused firms.
