Abstract:

Many young engineers will choose lifelong rewarding careers in engineering. Others will choose to move into fulfilling management careers. Still others will become victims of 'career drift', moving aimlessly through a variety of unrewarding jobs. This paper describes some of the steps a young engineer can take to plan his professional development and tries to emphasize the importance of starting this process early to maximize his or her potential.
