Abstract:

Seismic design considerations for the telephone system including outside plant and telephone equipment are discussed with emphasis placed on the requirements incorporated in the design of telephone equipment buildings. In recent years there have been only two seismic events which substantially shook telephone facilities. The first was the San Fernando Earthquake in 1971. The second was the Coalinga Earthquake in May 1983.
