Abstract:

A broad spectrum of computer applications in civil engineering is covered in 73 papers presented at the Third Conference on Computing in Civil Engineering. Emphasis is on microcompters and computer aided design. Examples of computer applications include terrain modeling, interactive modeling of water quality, computation of earthwork quantities, and modeling offshore structures. Uses of computers in civil engineering education are described. Other areas of computer applications include financial and project management, stuctural analysis, graphics, and finite element modeling. Discussions on microcomputers include an introduction to microcomputer selection and use. Examples of microcomputer use include data communications, database management, project planning and analysis, and finite element equation solving.
