Abstract:

Five readers responded to an article on responsibility for structural steel details published inCivil Engineering�ASCE, Oct. 1983. Most agree that the engineer of record must be the responsible party, but there is a strong feeling by others that the fabricator is the most competent to design the details and therefore, should assume some of the responsibility. The article reports opinions without drawing conclusions.
