Abstract:

It is proposed that 1986 be designated the Year of the Connection and that the American Society of Civil Engineers take a leading role in overcoming problems now associated with structural connections. The need for attention to detail in connections for prevention of structural failure is discussed. Studies on the subject, technical writings, educational programs and development of a code of standard practice are suggested. It is also recommended that individual engineers be more thorough in overall analysis of structural members.
