by William F. Hoey,

Document Type: Proceeding Paper

Part of: Managing Urban Transportation with Limited Resources

Abstract:

Declining subsidies and rising costs are endangering express bus services which have been highly successful in competing with the private auto. A system concept with private carriers operating peak-hour commuter buses and public carriers operating off-peak express travel, is proposed. Anticipated obstacles to implementation and potential ways to overcome them are discussed.
