Abstract:

The Grand Coulee Third Powerplant Project, an extension of the Grand Coulee Dam in northeastern Washington State, has been given a 1983 ASCE OCEA Award of Merit. Located on the Columbia River, the powerplant addition has added 3,900 mw of generating capacity to the original dam's 2,594 mw. The project also included the fabrication of record size generating units. Part of the existing dam had to be blasted away to make way for the extension.
