Abstract:

The computer was supposed to be the engineer's servant. But somehow he'd become the robot-like slave of the computer, doing little more than feeding in input and carrying away output. In this piece, through the medium of a short story, the author underscores some of the pitfalls of using a computer. This piece won Third Prize in the Civil Engineering--ASCE 1982 Essay Contest.
