Abstract:

This is the First Prize winner in CE's 1982 Essay Contest. The key to enhancing one's creativity, says the author, is to tap the intuitive and holistic capabilities of the right side of our brains � and not to limit ourselves to the logical and sequential left side. In the past, engineering education placed most of its emphasis on the analytical and logical functions. What can be done to enhance creativity within the engineering profession? Use brainstorming techniques. Cultivate humor and wit. Use pattern note-keeping techniques.
