These proceedings contain the papers and abstracts presented at the 1982 Irrigation and Drainage Division of the American Society of Civil Engineers Specialty Conference held in Orlando, Florida, July 21-23, 1982. The conference theme, Environmentally Sound Water and Soil Management, is supported by presentations covering environmental issues related to irrigation and drainage. Specific topics of discussion include new techniques in stream and wetlands management, agriculture and watershed management, forestry and watershed management, the impact of agricultural practices on receiving waters, effects of irrigation on water quality, and nutrient leaching. Research needs and trends in irrigation and drainage are reviewed. Irrigation management in humid areas, irrigation water requirements, and use of wastewater for irrigation are also considered.
