Since July 12, 1977 Iowa has had a law requiring continuing education as a condition of license renewal for professional engineers and land surveyors. The requirements and the results of the first year's experience are described. The impacts include a 15% decrease in the number of active registrants and a 93% increase in total attendance in continuation programs.
