Abstract:
The National Workshop on Reservoir Systems Operations, which convened August 13-17, 1979, at the University of Colorado in Boulder, was jointly sponsored by the American Society of Civil Engineers and the Office of Water Research and Technology of the Department of the Interior. The 90 participants represented federal agencies and private organizations engaged in reservoir systems operation and academic institutions involved in systems analysis research pertaining to this field. Objectives of the workshop included enhancement of technology transfer through the establishment of two-way lines of communication between users and researchers during the proceedings and formulation of specific recommendations to ensure continuation of this effort. Among the major issues addressed were: the communications gap between practitioners and academicians; the form, the curriculum and methods of present educational offerings; and the validity of distinctions between simulation and optimization. Six case studies are presented to provide a spectrum of reservoir systems, including a variety of sizes, ages, purposes, and agencies. Each case study includes a discussion and group study report.
