Transverse Forces on Vertical Tube Array in Waves

In a wave tank test with a vertical array of tubes the inline and transverse forces on small instrumented sections of the tubes were measured. The transverse forces on them and the total force profiles around them are presented here at different spacings for a range of Keulegan-Carpenter number covering the test range. The maximum transverse forces are nondimensionalized to obtain the lift coefficients. The eddy-shedding process and the associated lift forces on the tubes are shown to be affected by the spacings between the tubes. The lift force frequencies are also investigated. The results are presented for various tube spacings and at right angles to the wave direction.
