Abstract:

During the 1970s the Society had many impressive accomplishments, as documented by a multi-media presentation at the 1980 annual convention. Ten of these achievements are described, including activities in construction productivity, dam safety, trips by ASCE leaders to USSR and Peoples of China, professional conduct, new all-society engineering umbrella group, minority programs, code of ethics, and educator-practitioner dialog. Thanks in part to the influential report of the Professional Activities Study Committee of 1968-69, the 1970s may be seen as a time of growing ASCE activity in professional-educational engineering management-public communication and public affairs.
