Abstract:
This is the fourth article in Civil EngineeringASCE's computer series. A BASIC language program is presented for routing floods through storage reservoirs or detention basins by the storage-indication working curve method (Modified Plus Method). A sample program is included and explained step-by-step. Standard flood routing equations are included. Many municipalities require that post-development runoff cannot exceed pre-development runoff in their subdivision regulations. This is normally done by building a retention basin which acts as a small flood control reservoir. Thus this program flood routes the design inflow hydrograph through the storage of the basin.
