Abstract:
This article is based on interview with Gerald Barney, a consultant to the President's Council on Environmental Quality and other staff members of that organization. Among problems targeted are: soil deterioration threatening agricultural productivity, deforestation, atmospheric changes including carbon dioxide build-up and acid rain; and rapidly accelerating extinction of plant and animal species due to deforestation and wetland destruction.
