Abstract:

Scheduled for launch in early 1980, the Space Shuttle is the first reusable space vehicle. It will reduce space flight cost, saving an estimated $11.2 billion between 1980 and 1991. This space vehicle will service, refurbish, and refuel satellites in space; retrieve them for repair and reuse; and be used for a variety of tests and experiments in space, some of which are mentioned in the article. Article covers construction of ground facilities for launch and landing of the Shuttle.
