Abstract:
Practical advice for cost-cutting in reinforced concrete construction suggests improvements in accepted design and specifications, procedures and specific items. Brief recommendations for selecting and splicing column verticals at lowest cost. Do's and don'ts for welding reinforcing bars for splices; for welding assemblies without damaging bars where needed for design. References for welding procedures, specifications for bars to be welded, and advice on welding at edges of holes cut in existing floors.
