This note presents an approximate solution for predicting the buckling load factor for an orthogonal gridwork that is valid for arbitrary spacings and distribution of material and geometric properties. The Rayleigh-Ritz procedure is employed to reduce the problem to a solution of an eigenvalue problem. In addition, a procedure for combining computed Euler buckling load factors with semi-empirical buckling formulas for individual grid members is suggested.
