This study attempts to develop mathematical models that will adequately synthesize through trip travel patterns in small urban areas. For urban areas below a population of 50,000, utilizing the results of this study with current techniques of synthesizing internal travel patterns, the need for the costly and time-consuming origin-destination survey is obviated. Based on common statistical measures of accuracy, the procedure presented in this paper appears adequate for transportation planning purposes.
