The current state-of-the-art with regard to the analysis of inflatable shells is given along with indications of future research needs into their behavior. A bibliography and summary of basic work performed before 1965 is given. The two branches of research into the behavior of shells of revolution are described. The recent efforts devoted to arbitrary geometries for inflatable shells are considered.
