The analysis predicts the performance of jet pumps having a mixing duct of nonuniform bore; it thereby permits the duct geometry to be optimized for a specified pump duty. The distributions of pressure and of velocity are predicted for an axisymmetric jet of a uniform-density fluid confined within a duct. There is good quantitative agreement between the predictions and published experimental results over the range of Craya-Curtet number Ct relevant to jet pumps is, i.e., 0.2
