The objective herein is to investigate the effect of nonuniform distribution of forces. The effect of shear and compression interaction on the buckling of beam flange plates is studied for plates assumed to be simply supported on 3 edges and free on one longitudinal edge. The effect of restraints on the connected longitudinal edge is not studied. Its effect on uniformly compressed plates has been investigated by others. Also from test results, it appears that the effect of web restraint is negligible.
