A theoretical investigation is done on a loosely clamped, rigid-plastic plate subjected to a parabolically distributed impulse load. It is assumed that the plate is spherical at any instant and maintains a constant thickness. Interaction between membrane and moment yield surfaces is ignored. The simple solution obtained compares well with published experimental and theoretical investigations. Although the solution is based on an approximate scheme, it has the advantage of exhibiting the relevant parameters in a direct way and making quick calculations possible.
