Bounds for the limit load of spherical domes exposed to a uniform load over one-half are based on an approximate plasticity theorem proposed for thin shells by Schroeder and Sherbourne. The mean deviation from the average of both bounds is approximately 10% and experimental results indicate that the approximate plasticity theorem proposed for thin shells leads to solutions useful for engineering design.
