Abstract:
The behavior of axially loaded columns and beam-columns of uniform cross sections has been extensively investigated in both the elastic and inelastic ranges. In various practical situations, however, the use of tapered members, or wedge beams, is economically advantageous. The elastic stability of axially loaded tapered columns has been studied analytically by several investigators. The determination of the initial yield load for tapered beam-columns has also been investigated. In addition, an experimental investigation of the elastic stability of tapered beam-columns has been reported.
