Wood and adhesive, combined as structural glued laminated timber, has greatly advanced the return of heavy timber construction to the building industry. Research in progress is in the area of wood and adhesive, production and quality control procedures, structural design criteria, and field performance. The Research Committee of the American Institute of Timber Construction has prepared a list of active wood research projects. The timber industry has attempted to define its research needs and to provide individuals working on the same topic with an opportunity to make contact with investigators working in their particular field of interest and to assist these individuals to planning further research.
