Photoelastic Analysis of Folded-Plate Structures

Two span folded plates with interior column and gable supports are studied by means of three dimensional photoelasticity. Small scale epoxy models fabricated from two commercially available epoxy resins were stress frozen and sliced to reveal complete force distributions. The results are compared with theoretical solutions developed at Princeton. Difficulties inherent to the experimental approach are described and solutions are suggested.
