Compressibility as the Basis for Soil Bearing Value
by B.K. Hough,Serial Information: Journal of the Soil Mechanics and Foundations Division, 1959, Vol. 85, Issue 4, Pg. 11-40
Document Type: Journal Paper
Abstract:
Value and practicability of rupture theory as chief basis for bearing value determination is questioned; as alternative it is proposed that contact pressures and footing sizes be selected so as to equalize settlement due to soil compression; procedures for use in practical applications are proposed.
