Abstract:

Action of simple structure in practical use, for which linear stress-strain relation results in nonlinear load deflection curve involving region where load decreases with increase in deflection; behavior of this type of structure is similar to that of segment of spherical shell under uniform external pressure or strip of cylindrical shell under axial compression.
