Utilizing the neutral-point method a direct means of analyzing both symmetrical and nonsymmetrical loads on pipe is presented. Elementary loads are analyzed individually and a modified principle of superpositioning is applied to obtain complex loading patterns. One major requirement is that the final system of loads must be in equilibrium. The method is applicable to the design of any closed ring having at least one axis of symmetry; however, only the circular ring is examined in detail. Basic elementary load analyses are given in an index and methods of combining them demonstrated.
