Corrugated metal shear diaphragms are effective for controlling drift in multistory buildings and for stabilizing nominally pin-jointed structures. This paper presents a new method of analysis of the diaphragm. The technique is based on the stiffness approach whereby displacement patterns are assumed separately for the perimeter frame and the panels. The formulation takes into account the connection flexibilities, shear strains in the sheeting, and bending of the corrugation profile. The order of the overall stiffness matrix of the diaphragm is one more than four times the number of sheets in the diaphragm. Nonlinear analysis is carried out using an incremental load procedure, in which the load deformation characteristics of the connections are represented in multilinear form. The linear elastic response of the diaphragm predicted by the present theory compares favorably to those by detailed finite element analysis.
