The variation in intragranular porosity of limestones often does not allow the specified compaction standards to be fulfilled. The problem has caused embarrassment to engineers and loss of time and money to owners. In this paper, the effects of the intragranular porosity on the maximum dry density of a compacted fill are presented. Charts are presented depicting the influence of intragranular porosity and specific gravity on the maximum dry densities.
