Thermoelastic Optimal Design of Plates

The optimality condition for a plate, for a prescribed deflection, subjected to thermal and normal surface loadings, is derived by employing the theorem of stationary mutual potential energy. This optimality condition is then used for the evaluation of the optimal profile and the central thickness of a simply supported plate when the temperature change distribution is linear over the thickness and the deflection constraint is prescribed at the center.
