Discrete Model of Beams on Elastic Foundation

A discrete model is developed which consists of rigid bars connected by rotational springs and supported by lateral springs. End conditions of the model are formulated and equations of equilibrium are constructed and solved for some specific cases. Applications to beam-columns and shells of revolution are developed. The cases involving nonprismatic beams supported by nonuniform foundation are included in the analysis. Some numerical examples are shown, which demonstrate a reasonable accuracy, even for very simple models.
