Hybrid Element Applied to Shear Wall Analysis

In the finite element analysis of structures consisting of assemblages of beam and plate elements such as coupled shear walls, difficulties are encountered at the point of intersection of the different elements. The conventional displacement rectangular plane stress element has only translational displacement components at its nodes, whereas the beam element has two translations, and a rotation. If the rotation is suppressed at the intersection points, the structure is only poorly modeled.
