Bending Stresses in Dust Filled Cylinders

This note presents the derivation of a simple approximate formula for the axial bending stresses in circular ducts, in general. The results are applicable to ring stiffened and unstiffened cylindrical ducts loaded internally by a fluid. The fluid model is used as an approximation to the actual dust load and it is believed that this assumption is conservative. The most critical loading case, namely, the half filled shell, is examined.
