Probabilistic Evaluation of Safety of Soil Structures

by Dimitri Athanasiou-Grivas, (A.M.ASCE),

Serial Information: Journal of the Geotechnical Engineering Division, 1979, Vol. 105, Issue 9, Pg. 1091-1095

Document Type: Journal Paper

The relationship was examined between the conventional factor of safety, Fs, and the probability of failure, Pf, of soil structures and the results were presented in the form of easy-to-use charts. It was assumed that soil resistance, R, and applied load, S, were independent random variables following the versatile beta distribution.
