Abstract:

Metalcasting is one of the oldest methods of recycling�humans have a few millennia worth of experience with the technique�but today's industry still battles public preconceptions about dirt, grime, and pollution. A recent project from one of the world's largest producers of iron castings highlights efforts from metalcasters to further contribute to the sustainability of the supply chain. Waupaca Foundry Inc. (WFI), of Waupaca, WI, operates six facilities in Wisconsin, Indiana, and Tennessee. WFI uses a green sand casting process to produce metal castings for the automotive, construction, and agriculture industries.
