| Abstract: |
The conference, California and the World Ocean ’97 (CWO ’97), was organized by the Coastal Zone Foundation and Resources Agency of California. CWO ’97 was an opportunity to bring together the leading experts on ocean and coastal resource management issues from around the world to help California determine how best to begin approaching the recommendations in the strategy, California’s Ocean Resources: An Agenda for the Future. The papers in this proceedings were presented in San Diego, March 24-27, 1997, and offer suggestions on integrating and making more effective the protection, enhancement, and management of California’s extraordinary ocean and coastal resources. Topics covered are varied and include coastal economics, shoreline processes, ports and vessel traffic, oil and gas development, oil spill prevention and response, marine managed areas, habitats and ecosystems, fisheries management, water quality, governance and public policy, alternative and emerging technologies, education, and public participation. |
