Abstract:

A large ocean monitoring database was used to quantify relationships between demersal fish, epibenthic macroinvertebrates (EMI) and benthic infauna that provide potential pathways for bioaccumulation and biomagnification. The hypothesis tested was: there is no quantitative association among community measures (e.g., number of species, abundance, biomass) of fish, EMI and infauna. A number of quantitative statistical relationships emerged from the study that were supported by stomach analyses and life-history information obtained from the literature.
