Abstract:

Resistance to flow through subsurface flow wetlands is described by Darcy's law or by Ergun's equation. Both representations are combined with the continuity and energy equations to yield differential equations for the water surface profile. Analytic solutions were found for a suite of bed and flow conditions. An optimization method was used to fit the analytic solutions to water surface profiles observed in the laboratory.
