Abstract: (Abstract only) With the introduction of microcomputers, the application of mathematical models in water-resources planning and forecasting became increasingly popular during the last decade in Sri Lanka. Among the deterministic hydrological models, both black box and conceptual models became equally popular. Special feature in the selection of these models was the absence of any bias towards a particular model or the origin of the model. The selection of a particular model was done on the basis of an objective criteria to judge the model’s efficiency.
