Abstract:

The results of laboratory flume experiments with a floating cover and a loose bed indicate that, relative to a free surface flow, the increased drag of a floating cover increases flow depth, decreases mean flow velocity and decreases the rate of bedload transport for a constant discharge. Bedform length and height reach maximum values for a narrow range of cover roughness values.
